Supplements to Help Boost Immunity
The dreaded flu season is now upon us and that means it’s time to gear up your immune system. However, before explaining what supplements I take during flu season, we should understand some factors that impact our immune system during this time of year.:
First and foremost, the beautiful Summer sun has disappeared and we are now lacking the vitamin D from the sun. Naturally, that leads us to be inside more often, less movement, less fresh air and again, no sun. Secondly, starting from October to December people tend to have an over consumption of sweets and alcohol; starting from Halloween to holiday parties and extra treats. It is often not realized that consuming processed/unhealthy foods and drinking alcohol creates inflammation in the body which has a major effect on the immune system. With that being said, it is vital that we continue to stay as active as possible while eating clean and nutritious foods so our bodies continue to have the best ability to fight off pathogens.
As for the supplements I take, here are a few that I never forget to take daily:
Vitamin D/Vitamin K/Vitamin C/Magnesium: To ensure I am getting all the vital nutrients from the loss of sun and being outside I always make sure to take these daily. Vitamin D and K should always be taken together to ensure proper calcium regulation. As for Vitamin C, I always opt for a liposomal version to ensure the best absorption. Lastly, I always take a Magnesium prior to sleeping.
Colostrum: While Colostrum has so many benefits, the most important one for me are the immune functions. Colostrum contains antibodies (IgA and IgG) that help prevent viruses.
Propolis: Bees actually use propolis as protection for their hive and it has a similar effect for humans - it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that are super beneficial for immunity.
As I mentioned, proper nutrition and movement is essential for the best immunity but incorporating these supplements in your everyday routine is a sure way to protect yourself during this time of year.
